Members of AGSSA have the opportunity to log their volunteer hours, ensuring that all their valuable contributions are documented and acknowledged. Recognition is provided based on the number of hours dedicated to educational initiatives, fundraising activities, community service endeavors, and more. As each reporting period concludes, volunteers who have accumulated a substantial number of service hours with AGSSA become eligible to seek certification for the prestigious President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA).
- AGSSA volunteer hours reporting period is from each year’s May 1st to next year’s April 30th. For instance, the next period is from May 1st, 2023 to April 30th, 2024. Note “reporting period” refers to the year eligible for PVSA application, not AGSSA internal reporting.
- As per the guidelines established by PVSA, AGSSA follows a specific method for recognizing volunteers based on their age for the majority of the award period (a minimum of 7 months). In the context of AGSSA's reporting period, a volunteer's age is determined by their age on October 1st of the preceding year. For instance, if an individual's birthday falls on or before October 1, 2007, they are considered to be at least 16 years old (in the Young Adult category) for the reporting period spanning from May 1, 2023, to April 30, 2024.
- According to PVSA guidelines, AGSSA, in its role as the certifying organization, possesses complete authority to determine the validation and acceptance of service hours. Consequently, we retain the discretion to reject hours that appear artificially inflated, services that lack actual verification, activities of uncertain nature, or those without transparent confirmation.
- By PVSA guidelines, AGSSA does not recognize paid services as volunteer work.
- AGSSA promotes the development of its members’ creativity, leadership, and initiatives. The PVSA application is only for a qualified member who should represent at least 50% of the total hours to qualify.
- Any AGSSA event must come with a post on the website (agssa.org), which listed a volunteer’s full official name, exact service date (not a period), and hours, better with visible pictures taken during the event.
- AGSSA will reject hours that are artificially inflated or activities that lack clarity. In the case of non-AGSSA volunteer activities, a signed certificate and/or a confirmation letter from the designated contact person must be provided to ensure proper verification.
